Eaton partners with Taylor School

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Aug. 25, 2008)—Eaton Corporation’s electrical plant in Cleveland, which employs approximately 220 people, has been in operation since 1977. They became a member of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, however, in 1976 when Eaton, then Cutler Hammer, sent an advance team to Cleveland to build the plant.

“Obviously, Eaton Electrical has proven their commitment to the local community if they saw the value of Chamber membership before their plant officially opened,” Nancy Neal, director of communications, noted. “As good corporate citizens for more than 30 years, they are taking that commitment a step further by becoming a BEST partner with Taylor Elementary School.

“One of Eaton’s core values is to be considerate of our communities,” Patrick Hickey, plant manager of Eaton’s electrical facility, said. “We are proud to support Taylor Elementary School through the BEST partnership program of the Chamber of Commerce.”

BEST, an acronym for Business & Education Serving Together, is a workforce development initiative of the Chamber that partners local businesses and schools. The purpose is to strengthen the quality of the educational process through the utilization of community resources, to foster better understanding between the business community and the schools, and to expand learning opportunities for everyone involved in the partnership effort.

“We want our partnership to be reciprocal,” Sarah Frost, Taylor’s principal, said following the official celebration of the new partnership. “We have already scheduled our choir, Sounds of Silence, to sing at Eaton’s Christmas party.”

The mission of Taylor Elementary School is to create a stimulating learning environment that is safe, organized, disciplined and patriotic. In addition, the school promotes the extension of intellectual, technological, physical, social, aesthetic and emotional development in its students.

Frost added that the partnership with Eaton would enhance the school’s mission. They also hope to schedule additional opportunities for students to help Eaton, such as litter pickup.

Eaton Corporation is a diversified power management company with 2007 sales of $13 billion. Eaton is a global technology leader in electrical systems for power quality, distribution and control; hydraulics components, systems and services for industrial and mobile equipment; aerospace fuel, hydraulics and pneumatic systems for commercial and military use; and truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety.
