CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2009)—Global climate change has emerged as one of the most widely debated issues in the United States and is a growing concern among business leaders around the nation. Congress is currently debating federal climate change and energy legislation that would dramatically change our nation’s energy system and have a significant impact on businesses around the country. At the center of the issue is the debate over greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs): their source, their impact and the most effective means for mitigating them. Tom Mullikin, Moore & Van Allen PLLC, will discuss the current status of federal climate change and energy legislation and other climate change policy proposals at the Thursday, Oct. 29, Quality Council meeting at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce. He will also discuss international negotiations to craft a climate treaty and demand accountability from all nations for their contribution to global GHG levels. In addition, he will address what federal climate change and energy legislation could mean for Tennessee business leaders as they prepare to navigate the coming regulatory environment. Mullikin is a nationally recognized environmental attorney who frequently speaks to legislators and business and community leaders nationwide. His practice focuses on corporate compliance, regulatory relations and legislative representation. Mullikin’s 20-year legal career includes key legislative staff roles, direct legislative advocacy, extensive environmental legal representation and management of environmental impacts of climate change. He has spoken on the intersection of the economy and our environmental challenges at international conferences in Australia, Russia and the Czech Republic and across the United States in conjunction with industry associations and state and regional chambers of commerce. The complimentary lunch meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce.
