Paint nearly dry on auction?s art pieces

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (April 1, 2009)—Artists and artisans across the community are putting finishing touches on chairs, stools, tables, bars and other such items for inclusion in the 11th annual Chair-ries Jubilee auction “Reimagine!”

The theme complements the trend to “go green” and curb harmful effects on the environment by recycling old household items.

After months of searching for the right household item and selecting just the right artistic flair to capture the attention of bidders, the paint is nearly dry on this year’s Chair-ries Jubilee art pieces.

“Several teasers are displayed at the Chamber of Commerce,” Nancy Casson, co-chair for the event, said. “Even after 11 years, I’m still amazed at the talent and creativity displayed by the artists who participate each year.”

The auction will take place Friday, April 17, at the Museum Center at 5ive Points with a silent auction and social hour beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction starting at 8 p.m. The Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce presents the annual event.

“The museum transforms into a treasure chest full of surprises,” co-chair Ann McCarley said, describing the vast collection of artwork from an impressive list of local artists. “If you’re looking for a unique piece of furniture for a bedroom, child’s playroom, a summer home, a sunroom—well, most any room in your house—to make plans to attend this year’s fundraiser.”

Both Casson and McCarley added that while the artwork is incredible, the bottom line at the end of the event is most important.

“All of this effort takes place to raise money for arts in education grants and to place visiting artists in our schools,” Casson stressed.

Through the fundraising efforts of Chair-ries Jubilee, the Allied Arts Council has invested more than $195,000 in local schools for teacher arts grants and visiting artists since its inception 11 years ago. The council hopes to surpass $200,000 with this year’s auction.

Tickets for Chair-ries Jubilee, available at the Chamber of Commerce, The Red Ribbon and Orange Blossom Boutique, are $20 in advance. Ticket cost is $25 at the door.
